WHY? That is a question many of us fail to ask ourselves often enough. We all too often focus on the "what" and the "how", but the "why" really is the underlying factor and motivator to every choice you make whether you notice it or not. It acts kinda like a GPS to keep you on track. Discovering and remembering your "why" for anything you do is the best way to stay on any path you choose for yourself.
With that in mind, do not think of your "why" as an end destination, but more so as the guiding principle to align your thoughts, choices, and actions. Here are some questions to ask yourself to start discovering your "why". Set aside a few quiet moments, maybe begin with a short meditation or breathing exercise to help you tune into yourself, grab a pen and write what comes naturally, answering the following:
1. What really motivates you to be the best version of yourself?
2. Why does that motivate you?
3. What do you love to do? (You lose track of time and all your worries disappear when you're doing it)
4. What things or experiences do you really want to have in your life?
5. What are the core values that you live by, or want to live by? (Choose 3-5. Ex: Health, happiness, success, wealth, freedom, connection, service... etc.)
Knowing the answers to these questions clearly and confidently will help you to more easily start to eliminate anything in your life that does not serve your greater purpose. When you're faced with a decision, simply ask yourself if it moves you in the direction of your answers to the questions above or further away. If someone or something doesn't align with your values, desires, or your why, you will be able to say no or remove them from your life without guilt or confusion because you have your own personal GPS to trust. You stop settling for "good enough" because you know how amazing it can actually be. The elimination of things, people, or actions that are not in alignment with your GPS only opens the door wider for those things that are!
These principles can apply to our homes:
> What products do we use daily? If you value health, you're going to eliminate toxins.
> How is your home decorated? Do you feel appreciation, love, and inspiration from the pieces you keep on display? Do the colors, shapes, and textures around you light you up?
> Do you want to come home and relax, decompress, and spend quality time doing what you love with who you love? Start to notice what you spend your time doing instead. Are you constantly picking up clutter or even just feeling resentment toward the clutter that's around?
These ideas can also apply to relationships we involve ourselves in, or activities we choose to do. Get into the habit of doing a regular evaluation of how you want to feel and what you want to accomplish and what in your life is aligning you with that or pulling you away. Adjust accordingly :)
So as you begin your healthy home journey, don't forget to ask yourself WHY you are choosing this path. Is it for your own health? Your kids? Your family? Future generations? The planet? Document it clearly so you can remind yourself when you feel discouraged or confused. Your "why" should feel exciting, empowering, motivating. It must be stronger than the ego's efforts to bring you back into your comfort zone.
